MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION CARBONDALE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 165, CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS HELD AUGUST 21, 2014

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of School District 165 was held in the cafeteria of Carbondale Community High School, 1301 East Walnut Street, Carbondale, Illinois, on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 7:00 p.m.

Upon roll call, the following members were present:

President King declared a quorum present and the regular meeting of August 21, 2014, was called to order.

Minutes: The minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of July 17, 2014, were approved as distributed.

Old Business: There were no old business items.

Introduction of New Faculty: Daniel Booth introduced the new faculty members to the Board:

President King welcomed the faculty members on behalf of the Board of Education.

Public Comments: There were no public comments.

Payment of Bills: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Woodard, to pay the remaining bills for the month of July, 2014; and, those available for payment for the month of August, 2014. Roll call: Booziotis, Flowers, Hudgins, King, Neill and Woodard voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

2014 Summer School Update: Terica Doyle and Stephanie Finke updated the Board on the 2014 Summer School Program. They advised the Board the program was very successful again this year.

2014-15 District-Wide Goals: Superintendent Murphy requested the Board's thoughts/input in preparing the 2014-15 District-Wide Goals.

Bids and Quotes: There were no bids or quotes.

Presentation of the 2014-15 Tentative Budget for Public Display: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Flowers, to receive the tentative budget for the 2014-15 school year, place it on display for the public at the district office, the high school office, and the Carbondale Public Library, and to hold a public hearing on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Roll call: Flowers, Hudgins, King, Neill, Woodard and Booziotis voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Approval of 2014 August Graduates: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Booziotis, to approve the following students for official graduation August 21, 2014:

FY14 PA 96-0434/PA 97-0609 Compensation Report: The Board received a copy of the FY14 PA 96-0434/PA 97-0609 Compensation Report for their review.

FY14 Report on Administrator/Teacher Aide Salary and Benefits: The Board received a copy of the FY14 Report on Administrator/Teacher/ Teacher/Teacher Aide Salary and Benefits for their review.

Network Administrator Salary Adjustment: Motion by Neill, seconded by Booziotis, to increase the Network Administrator salary $3,939.00 due to increased supervision and evaluation duties with the employment of a Network Technician. Roll call: King, Neill, Woodard, Booziotis, Flowers and Hudgins voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Hall Monitor Insurance Resolution: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Neill, to approve the Hall Monitor Insurance Resolution that increases Hall Monitor insurance benefits so that they are the same as the Teacher Aide insurance benefits. Roll call: Neill, Woodard, Booziotis, Flowers, Hudgins and King.

New Evaluation Instrument, “Carbondale Framework for Teaching”: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Flowers, to approve the new evaluation instrument, “Carbondale Framework for Teaching”, as presented. Roll call: Woodard, Booziotis, Flowers, Hudgins, King and Neill voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Resignations: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Hudgins, to accept the following resignations as presented:

a. Carlyn Zimmermann (part-time Chorus Teacher) effective July 22, 2014.

b. Megan Howie (E.O.C. Aide) effective July 28, 20214.

c. Larry Warner (Study Hall Aide/Parent Liaison) effective August 1, 2014.

Roll call: Booziotis, Flowers, Hudgins, King, Neill and Woodard voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Employment of Personnel: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Neill, to employ the following 2014-15 personnel as presented:

a. Kara Gregory, Chorus Teacher (4/6-time)--Retroactively employ Kara Gregory as a part-time (4/6-time) Chorus Teacher for the 2014-15 school year effective August 14, 2014. Ms. Gregory’s education and experience will place her at Line 6, Column MA/MS prorated on the Teacher Salary Schedule.

b. Aide/Monitor Personnel--Personnel as presented:

Kevin McNeill, Study Hall Aide/Parent Liaison--$9.65/Hour—Retroactively employ effective August 14, 2014.

Andrea Russell, E.O.C. Aide--$9.65/Hour—Pending receipt of Illinois Substitute Teaching License.

DeAndre Smith, Hall Monitor--$83.00/Day—Pending receipt of Illinois Substitute Teaching License.

Roll call: Hudgins, King, Neill, Woodard, Booziotis and Flowers voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

President King advised there would be a short recess prior to the executive session and that no action would be taken after the executive session.

Next Board of Education Meeting--The next Board of Education meeting will be Thursday, September 25, 2014.

Terriers Athletic Hall of Fame--The Board received an announcement regarding the Terriers Athletic Hall of Fame “A Weekend to Remember” event scheduled for August 29-30, 2014.

Education Foundation Gala--The Board received information regarding the Education Foundation Gala to be held on September 20, 2014.

Carbondale Chamber Guide and Directory--The Board received a copy of the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce Community Guide and Member Directory in their Board packet.

2014-15 CCHS Student Handbook for Students-Parents-Faculty--The Board received a copy of the 2014-15 CCHS Student Handbook for Students-Parents-Faculty in their Board packet.

Meeting Recessed: The meeting public portion of the meeting recessed at 7:35 p.m.

Executive Session Convened: The executive session convened at 7:47 p.m.

Member Leaves Executive Session: Member Hudgins left the executive session at 8:23 p.m.

Executive Session Adjourned: The executive session adjourned at 8:45 p.m. President King stated no action was taken while in executive session.

Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 8:46 p.m.
