MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION CARBONDALE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 165, CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS HELD OCTOBER 15, 2015 The regular meeting of the Board of Education of School District 165 was held in the Carbondale Community High School Cafeteria, 1301 East Walnut Street, Carbondale, Illinois, on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Upon roll call, the following members were present: Kathy Booziotis Francis Tsung Linda Flowers Brian Woodard Joe Hudgins The following members were absent: Brad Cole Vicky King Also present were: Stephen Murphy Erinn Murphy Daniel Booth Jamie Hogue CCHSEA Represented Approval of Minutes: Motion by Hudgins, seconded by Booziotis, to approve the minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of September 25, 2015, and the minutes of the September 25, 2015 executive session. Roll call: Booziotis, Flowers, Hudgins, Tsung and Woodard voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Old Business: There were no old business items. Counseling Department Presentation: Erinn Murphy, Counseling Department Chair, and Jamie Hogue, Counselor, did a presentation for the Board regarding the activities of the CCHS Counseling Department. Member Answers Roll Call: Member King answered roll call at 7:03 p.m. Public Comments: There were no public comments. Payment of Bills: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Tsung, to pay the remaining bills for the month of September, 2015; and, those available for payment for the month of October, 2015. Roll call: Flowers, Hudgins, King, Tsung, Woodard and Booziotis voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Committee Reports: There were no committee reports. 2015-16 District Goals: Motion by Hudgins, seconded by Tsung, to approve the 2015-16 District Goals as presented: 1. We will continue to maintain the positive financial position of the district. 2. We will actively work to enhance the diversity of our workforce, including the recruitment and retention of ethnic minority staff. 3. We will develop a comprehensive Public Relations Plan for the district, to be developed in conjunction with a new Public Relations Committee. 4. We will continue to enhance our curriculum to meet the needs of the whole child and prepare students for college and careers in the 21st century.--We will increase the number of students enrolled in dual credit courses by 25%. Roll call: Hudgins, King, Tsung, Woodard, Booziotis and Flowers voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Bids and Quotes: There were no bid or quote items. Executive Session: There was no executive session. Employment of 2015-16 Personnel: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Flowers, to employ the following 2015-16 personnel as presented: a. Industrial Maintenance Technicians: 1. Michael Green at the rate of $17.24 per hour. 2. Austin Hardwig at the rate of $14.24 per hour. b. Extra-Duty Personnel: Head Wrestling Coach: Dennis Ragan ($7,587.00) Asst. Wrestling Coach: Joe Bevis ($4,000.00), Jerry Richards ($4,000.00), Jared Ragan ($1,112.00) Roll call: King, Tsung, Woodard, Booziotis, Flowers and Hudgins voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. Approval of 2015-16 Volunteers: Motion by King, seconded by Tsung, to approve the following 2015-16 volunteers as presented: Speech Volunteers: Denali Carpenter Rachel Radtke Briar North Andrew Lampley Daniel Yang Band Volunteer: Catherine Keene Roll call: Tsung, Woodard, Booziotis, Flowers, Hudgins and King voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried. November Board Meeting: The November Board of Education meeting will be Thursday, November 12, 2015. 2015 IASB Report to Membership: The Board received the 2015 IASB Report to Membership in their board packet. Adjournment: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by King, to adjourn the meeting. Roll call: Woodard, Booziotis, Flowers, Hudgins, King and Tsung voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.
